What Will My Schedule Look Like as part of an Impact Team?

We strive to find the right balance of flexibility and structure to ensure your volunteer experience with The Policy Project is meaningful for both you and the organization.

Monthly

Impact Team Projects

Each regional Impact Team has a unique rhythm and focus. Your team lead will help set the cadence for meetings and projects, but all team members play an active role in driving forward our mission. As a volunteer, you will:

  • Support ongoing initiatives within your region

  • Collaborate with team members to coordinate events, share insights, and strengthen community outreach

  • Help organize and attend local events to amplify The Policy Project’s impact

  • Advocate for our policy priorities by engaging with your community and local legislators

  • Whether you're leading an event, showing up to support, or offering your voice in a strategic conversation, your contributions matter.

Submit Reporting Form

Each month, volunteers are required to take a few minutes to submit a reporting form to track your volunteer hours and the projects you are working on. Accurate tracking of volunteer hours is a critical part of measuring The Policy Project’s impact, and we greatly appreciate your help with prompt and accurate reporting!

Quarterly

Quarterly Check-in Call

  • Once a quarter, all Impact Team members are invited to a virtual call with TPP staff and volunteers from across the state. These calls are a great opportunity to:

    • Share successes and lessons learned

    • Receive updates and training

    • Connect with others doing similar work

    • Access tools and resources to help you succeed

  • We encourage all Impact Team members to attend live if possible, but we’ll also share summaries afterward in case you can’t make it.

Annually

In addition to ongoing team efforts, we host a few signature events each year to build connection and gear up for advocacy work together:

Mandatory Meetings & Trainings

  • Policy Action Lab – Summer training and planning session held in Salt Lake City

  • Kick-Off Rally at the Capitol – Held in November to launch our legislative initiative

Activities to Host or Support as an Impact Team

  • Over the course of the year, your team will have the opportunity to plan or support a variety of community-focused events. These are great ways to deepen your impact and raise awareness in your region. Activities may include:

    • Kickoff Gathering – Meet your team and learn about the year ahead

    • Period Packing Party – Assemble period kits for students in your area

    • Stakeholder Gathering – Host a discussion to hear from key community voices

    • Legislative Community Event – Raise awareness and collect postcards from your community

    • Legislator Meetings – Meet with policymakers outside the session to build relationships

    • Policy Implementation Support – Help with local efforts to get period products into schools, organize product drives, or assist schools with prevention education signup

We’ll provide guidance and support for each of these efforts, and you’ll always be working as a team.

Other

Events, Conferences, and Special Invitations

Our Impact Teams will be invited to many events that The Policy Project hosts or participates in. These are great opportunities to deepen your connection with the team and broader community, but we understand you won’t make it to everything! While your participation is always valued and appreciated, outside of Impact Team meetings and events, quarterly calls, the Policy Action Lab, and the Kick-Off Rally at the Capitol, attendance at other events is optional based on your interest and availability.

Communication with TPP Staff

To keep things streamlined, we encourage volunteers to communicate through their Impact Team Lead whenever possible. Your lead is your main point of contact and will relay information between your team and TPP staff. Of course, if you have something urgent or specific to share, you're always welcome to reach out directly—we just want to help reduce back-and-forth and keep things flowing smoothly.
