What Will My Internship Schedule Look Like?

We strive to find the right balance of flexibility and structure to ensure your internship experience with The Policy Project is meaningful for both you and the organization. Apart from scheduled meetings with Policy Project staff and volunteers, you have the flexibility to set your own hours based on your schedule. This is a hybrid internship—we encourage you to attend meetings and events in person to build your network and connections with the team, but you can work on your assigned projects whenever and wherever works best for you.

Weekly

Work on Assigned Projects & Tasks

Your internship supervisor will provide clear assignments and timelines during your time with The Policy Project. Interns are typically assigned one to three major projects to focus on during their internship term within a specific area of Policy Project operations. We ask that our interns dedicate 12-15 hours per week, but we can offer additional hours based on your academic needs.

Submit Reporting Form

Each week, interns are required to submit a weekly reporting form to track your hours and the projects you are working on. Please submit the form prior to your weekly meeting with your supervisor—the form will also have space for jotting down any items that need to be discussed during your weekly meeting! Accurate tracking of intern hours is a critical part of measuring The Policy Project’s impact, and we greatly appreciate your help with prompt and accurate reporting!

Meet with Supervisor

You’ll have a weekly 30 minute check-in call with your supervisor to review progress, receive new assignments, and talk through any questions or challenges. These meetings are your dedicated space for open, honest conversation—whether that’s requesting support, celebrating wins, reviewing the calendar, or aligning expectations for the week ahead. These check-ins are a key part of your internship experience, helping ensure you stay connected, supported, and set up for success.

Monthly

All Hands Meeting

At noon on the first Tuesday of each month, we hold a one-hour meeting for all staff and volunteers. During this meeting we share upcoming events, organization wide announcements, and updates on policy development and implementation. The purpose of our All Hands meeting is to foster connection, transparency, and collaboration across the organization—providing everyone with a clear view of ongoing initiatives, opportunities to align efforts, and access to trainings that build skills and strengthen our collective impact. We encourage you to attend All Hands in person to connect with the broader team, and lunch will be provided.

Department Meetings

Where applicable, some interns may be invited to a monthly Department Meeting (such as the Research Department Meeting or the Events Department Meeting) to present their work and collaborate with staff and volunteers. These meetings are typically held on Tuesdays and are in a hybrid format with the option to call in if you can’t attend in person.

Events, Conferences, and Special Invitations

Interns are invited to nearly every event The Policy Project hosts or attends. These are great opportunities to deepen your connection with the team and community. We understand you won’t make it to everything, but we’ll highlight the most important ones so you know which ones to prioritize.

End of Internship

Final Presentation

At the close of your internship term, you will create a final presentation showcasing your process, final deliverables, and takeaways from your internship experience. We will invite the broader team to come celebrate your contributions, ask questions about your work and experience at The Policy Project, and offer advice as you continue your education and career journey.

Internship Stipend

This internship is unpaid, but we encourage interns to work with their university to earn school credit for internship work. The Policy Project will provide all needed supervision and documentation to meet credit requirements. Interns who successfully complete their internship term will receive a $500 stipend to help offset travel and other living expenses.
