At The Policy Project, we value integrity, transparency, and trust in everything we do. As a volunteer, you are a representative of our mission—and we ask that you avoid situations where personal interests might conflict with the best interests of the organization.

A conflict of interest occurs when your personal, professional, or financial interests (or those of someone close to you) could compromise your ability to volunteer objectively or act in the organization’s best interest. This includes activities or affiliations that conflict with The Policy Project’s mission, values, or political neutrality policy. Examples of potential conflicts might include working for or representing a lobbying firm that opposes The Policy Project’s initiatives, promoting a personal business during Policy Project events, publicly endorsing political candidates in a way that could be perceived as connected to your volunteer role, serving on the board of an organization with conflicting policy priorities, etc. Because volunteers are often seen as ambassadors of our work, it’s important that outside activities do not undermine our credibility, neutrality, or mission-driven focus.

If a situation arises that might pose a conflict—or even the appearance of one—we ask that you disclose it to a staff member. Some outside activities that conflict with our mission or neutrality may require changes to your volunteer role or, in some cases, may lead to the end of your volunteer term with The Policy Project. We’re not here to limit your personal or civic engagement—we simply want to ensure that all involvement aligns with our shared purpose and public trust.

As a volunteer, you agree to:

  • Act in the best interest of The Policy Project while volunteering.

  • Disclose any real or potential conflicts of interest to a staff member.

  • Avoid using your volunteer role to benefit yourself or others personally or financially.

  • Refrain from engaging in activities—publicly or privately—that are inconsistent with the organization’s mission, values, or political neutrality standards.

  • Not accept gifts, favors, or compensation from individuals or organizations doing business with or seeking influence over The Policy Project.
